Tyre King

The details are a bit distorted and updates will continue to be posted to this blog about the situation. This is also very difficult to talk about and we will go in depth with the reasons behind it.

September 14, 2016, 13 year old Tyre King was shot and killed here in Columbus, Ohio. From the story told to the media by a friend, whom was on scene during the shooting, he describes King to be the suspect of a robbery, which was the robbery the police officers were responding to. The friend, Demetrius Braxton (19 year old), said that King wanted to commit a robbery, which is why the two were together that evening. Braxton told the media the two were caught by the police and were told to get down on the ground, which they both did, but then King got up and ran which is when the police fired the three fatal shoots.

The reason this situation is difficult to talk about is because of the 4th amendment. The 4th amendment protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government. This does not cover individuals from all searches and seizures, only those that are deemed unreasonable under law. When the 4th amendment comes into play after an officer is involved, they can simply say the suspect posed as a threat to the officer and/or the community, this leads to probable cause for a search. But when the suspect is running from the scene and is presented to be a threat, it gets even more trickier. Some states train police officers to shoot if they deem the suspect to be of danger to the police officer and the community, at that point use of a deadly weapon is acceptable.

Another reason this situation is difficult to talk is due to the lack of correct information. From the first story told by media, King pulled the BB gun on the police. Now we hear that the two black males were on the ground and King took off running. Right now we are trying to determine when the police saw the so called "weapon," and if they saw it were they under the impression he was a threat, if they did not see it, then he was not perceived as a threat, therefore resulting in a unreasonable shooting causing this boys death.
